Aktiviti Ekonomi Jepun Di Tanah Melayu Sebelum Perang Dunia Kedua: Satu Perspektif Sejarah
Abstract
Abstract
This article will analyze the historical development of Japanese investment in Malaya between 1910 and 1940, and also to collect all the data of Japanese investment in this period. Attitude and the colonial government policies in limiting or stimulating the types of Japanese investment in Malaya will also be analyzed. In this time frame, Malaya was under British administration. Japanese investment in Malaya was in rubber cultivation industry, fisheries and in bauxite mining, iron ore and other minerals. During the colonial era, although the tin industry was monopolized by the British, but the conflict between Britain and Japan was mainly focused in the rubber industry. Meanwhile, local fishermen in Malaya had been unable to compete with Japanese fishermen in the fisheries sector. British justification for the exploitation of Japan in the iron ore industry in the Non Federated Malay States was to assist the development of these states.
