Abstract
Shojo manga is a genre of Japanese comics which targets young females from the age of seven to twenty years old. Shojo which means "little girl" while manga means 'comic' varies  in terms of narrative and graphic style, with background from history to science fiction. Shojo manga usually tinged with romance, humor, conflict and emotions in a loving relationship between a man and a woman. The term “Shojo manga†refers not the story or the sketch in the comic, but it i refers to the target audience of women in the early stages of adolescence. Shojo manga was first popularized by Ozuka Tesamu after World War 2 with a manga titled Princess Knight. In the Mid-1960s, the first female writer of shojo manga, Yoshiko Nishitani wrote about the love story among contemporary Japanese girl. This study examined the text contained in shojo manga translations and identifies the features contained in the shojo manga, outlining the factors that make shojo manga succeed in the globalized world.

Shojo manga adalah genre komik Jepun yang mensasarkan golongan remaja perempuan dalam kalangan umur tujuh tahun hingga dua puluh tahun sebagai pembaca utama. Shojo yang bermaksud ‘gadis kecil’ dan manga bermaksud ‘komik’ mempunyai variasi dari segi naratif dan stail grafik, berlatar belakangkan sejarah sehingga kepada fiksyen sains. Kebiasaannya shojo manga diwarnai dengan unsur romantik, humor, konflik dan emosi dalam hubungan cinta antara lelaki dengan perempuan. Definisi shojo manga bukan terhadap cerita atau lakaran dalam sesuatu komik tetapi adalah berdasarkan pembaca sasaran iaitu golongan wanita pada peringkat awal remaja. Shojo manga dipopularkan oleh Ozuka Tesamu selepas Perang Dunia Ke-2 iaitu manga yang bertajuk Princess Knight. Pertengahan tahun 1960-an, barulah muncul penulis wanita dalam genre shojo manga iaitu Nishitani Yoshiko yang menulis mengenai kisah cinta dalam kalangan gadis Jepun kontemporari. Kajian ini meneliti teks yang terdapat dalam shojo manga terjemahan dan mengenal pasti ciri-ciri yang terdapat dalam shojo manga, seterusnya merumuskan faktor yang menjadikan shojo manga berjaya dalam dunia global.
