Abstract

Era globalisasi yang sedang dihadapi oleh penduduk dunia masa kini menyaksikan pelbagai cabaran dan persaingan yang sengit bagi setiap individu. Cabaran dan persaingan yang sengit ini mendorong golongan wanita untuk turut berdaya saing selari dengan perubahan arus dunia. Wanita perlu bersaing dalam apa jua perkara demi membuktikan kemampuan diri sekaligus memperbaiki dan mempertingkat nilai dan taraf hidup. Hal ini mendorong kepada peningkatan jumlah wanita bekerja dari masa ke masa. Pengiktirafan masyarakat terhadap kelayakan dan kemampuan wanita menjadi pemangkin kepada golongan ini untuk terus mencabar diri dengan menceburi pelbagai sektor pekerjaan. Pelbagai profesion yang pada skema pemikiran masyarakat adalah lebih sesuai dan hakikatnya memang didominasi golongan lelaki sejak sekian lama kini semakin mendapat perhatian golongan wanita untuk diceburi. Bilangan wanita yang memegang jawatan tertinggi serta terlibat dengan membuat keputusan dalam sesebuah organisasi turut menunjukkan peningkatan daya saing golongan wanita dalam masyarakat. Cabaran dan persaingan yang dihadapi oleh golongan wanita bekerja ini menuntut kekuatan mental dan fizikal. Ini disebabkan tekanan di tempat kerja dan di rumah yang tidak ditangani dengan baik menyumbang kepada permasalahan kesihatan mental dan fizikal sekaligus menjejaskan kualiti hidup. Sehubungan itu, golongan wanita bekerja ini memerlukan sokongan sosial yang berterusan terutama daripada keluarga, organisasi, masyarakat dan kerajaan. Sokongan sosial ini dilihat sebagai asas yang memacu kejayaan kerjaya, kesihatan mental serta kesejahteraan hidup individu. Justeru, kertas kerja ini membincangkan kesan sokongan sosial di tempat kerja terhadap kesihatan mental golongan wanita bekerja.
