Abstract

This study aimed to determine the efficacy of teachers according to the phases of teaching experience. A sample of 1321 teachers in 48 schools in four main divisions in Sabah, were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using instruments of Teacher Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES). Mean analysis showed that the efficacy of secondary school teachers is at a high level. Efficacy of teachers identified evolved in four phases, namely the adaptation of efficacy, matured efficacy, peak efficacy and lethargic efficacy. Pearson correlation analysis found a significant correlation but at weak levels between teacher experience and teacher efficacy. Through multivariate analysis, it was found that teaching experience has significant impact on the overall efficacy of the teacher as well as its each dimension. Class’s management are found to receive a greater influence than the other dimensions. The implications of the research findings are discussed.
