KEPERIBADIAN DAN SOKONGAN SOSIAL PENGHUNI PUSPEN: IMPLIKASI TERHADAP PROGRAM PEMULIHAN
Abstract
This study aims to examine personality and social support among the residents of PUSPEN. Personality factors involved in the study were assertive attitude, dependency, openness, self-critical and self-esteem. Data gathering involved two phases. A total of 48 inmates involved in group interviews during the first phase. Another group of 250 inmates involved in completing questionnaires during the second phase. The result showed that the residents of PUSPEN have poor self confidence, high openness and high self-esteem. The results also indicated that the family is a significant social support to residents. They have a trust on the family members and expected the family members to support them. However, majority of the residents experienced poor visit from the family members. In addition, their good relationships with family members change into negative after being involved in drug addiction. Implication of this, family involvement is required in drug rehabilitation programme, which contribute to self-confidence among the inmates. Good relationships with family members and self-confidence will help in reduce level of dependency, which contribute to low intention to relapse after rehabilitation programme.
