MENGAPA GURU PELATIH BIMBANG UNTUK BERTUTUR DALAM KELAS BAHASA ARAB?
Abstract
Anxiety is one of the factors that greatly influences students' ability to learn foreign languages, and past studies have shown that speaking skills are most influenced by this factor. In the context of the Arabic language studies, many findings indicate the weakness of students in mastering speaking skills. Therefore, this study aims to identify the anxiety experienced by Arabic language trainee teachers in the Islamic Education Campus Teacher Education Institute while studying speaking skills. A total of 11 students of the Bachelor in Education (PISMP) programme currently pursuing the Arabic Language Proficiency course (BAMB3013) were selected as respondents in this study. This study uses the qualitative approach and data were obtained through 66 students’ diary entries which were then analysed based on the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety theory. The findings of the study showed that anxiety in speaking involves communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation and also test anxiety. This anxiety arises from ingrained fears of trainee teachers, the form of speaking activities carried out and the behavior shown by friends and lecturers.References
