Abstract
ABSTRACT
This article aims to give an opportunity for academics, as key individuals in a university to research their roles and responsibilities in educating, seeking knowledge and deliver it. Every day, every academics will have to make decisions and there are decisions that will affect the question of ethics. The content of this article explores the ethical responsibilities in the academic field based on the code of ethics of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. This article also describes the moral role of academics to themselves, students, colleagues and the community. There have been many twists and obstacles and controversial ethical issues in the academic world reported from other countries. Fortunately in Malaysia it was not as prominent or tapered, at least no serious academic offenses have affected the credibility of the academic profession.But what happens in the academic world abroad must be learned so that similar mistakes are not repeated.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberi peluang kepada para ahli akademik, sebagai individu penting di dalam sesebuah universiti, untuk meneliti peranan dan tanggungjawab mereka dalam mendidik, mencari ilmu dan menyampaikannya. Setiap hari, setiap ahli akademik akan perlu membuat keputusan. Ada keputusan-keputusan yang akan menyentuh persoalan etika. Isi penulisan ini mengupas tentang tenggungjawab etika dalam bidang akademik bersandarkan kepada kod etika Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Artikel ini juga menghuraikan peranan moral ahli akademik terhadap diri mereka sendiri, pelajar, rakan sekerja dan masyakarat. Dunia akademik di luar Negara telah menempuh banyak ranjau dan halangan, dengan isu dan kontroversi etika. Untungnya di Malaysia, ia tidaklah begitu menonjol atau meruncing, sekurang-kurangnya tiada kesalahan akademik yang serius dan mencalar kredibiliti serta martabat profesion akademik. Namun begitu, apa yang berlaku dalam dunia akademik di luar Negara perlu diambil iktibar agar kesilapan yang sama tidak berulang.
